I set up this blog several days ago, but have procrastinated madly on my first entry. I've spent today convincing myself that the writing part is essential to said blog, so I begin.
Why a blog? It's time. I'm surprised I didn't start one years ago, with my love of writing and constant online presence. The Blog is an inevitability, and I succumb now to it's dark calling. Plus, I am learning a lot of amazing things about the craft of writing. I long to share this journey with others who are as passionate about it, and help newbie writers jump in with both feet. Which begs the question...
Why a writing career? Well, I've always loved writing and reading. I've known I was going to be a novelist sooner or later. It took a (hopefully not) midlife/identity/existential crisis of epic proportions last year to realize that it's sooner. And sooner is now. I'm unclear on whether this revelation caused said crisis, or emerged from it, but my passion for writing has been unleashed. It's not going away. So I write. And I read. And I continue my day job (and likely will for decades to come). But I'm learning my craft, so someday when I'm published, people will actually enjoy my books. I know there's no shortcuts. I'm doing the work.
I'm a writer.
